General Information
The Rostrum Voice of Youth competition within the State is Organised by the State Convenor. To assist in the organisation of the competition, NSW has been divided into a number of regions; within each region, the competition is managed by one or more people as listed on the Regional Contacts page. Participants progress through a series of Area heats and Regional finals to the NSW State final, the winner representing NSW in the National final.
The NSW State Final is held in NSW Parliament House on the last Saturday in June each year.
There are two age-defined divisions - Junior and Senior - for those under 15 and those under 18 respectively at 1st January in the competition year.

| Each of the Junior and Senior finalists in the State and National championships will be flown to the competition city to participate and will enjoy an expenses paid weekend. The winner and runner up in both the Junior and Senior age divisions of the State final receive cash prizes, as well as the personal trophies awarded to all finalists. The NSW State winners in each age division will receive a cash prize of $300.00 and the runners up will receive $150.00 and personal trophies. The perpetual trophies, the Kathryn Carter Trophy (Juniors) and the John White Shield (Seniors) are passed to the winners' schools to be retained for 12 months.. | ![]() |
At the National level, the winners and runners-up receive cash prizes and personal trophies.
All competitors are presented with Certificates of Participation at each level of the Rostrum Voice of Youth competition.
The co-operation of secondary schools is vital to the success of this competition. Rostrum thank all the school Public Speaking Coordinators and the hosting schools for their contribution to the success of the competition.
